Steve Werren learned his musical trade in the numerous pubs and clubs spread along the Newcastle coastline. Like all other musicians Steve’s dream was one of making music his life, and dedicated himself to attain this end at a very young age.
Steve achieved success early in his career with a Professional Musician’s award for best act with his musical/comedy duo ‘Nobody’s Home’. With partner Kevin O’Hara the act received rave reviews for their highly entertaining performances combining high quality music with insane comedy routines.
Besides being the lead singer in numerous bands and duo’s, Steve also used his talent to regularly switch between playing guitar and bass. He also did a stint on keyboards with six piece show band ‘The Orphans’ on the cruise ship the ‘Oriana’ around the South Pacific.
This followed with the formation of his self titled band which supported many of the top Australian and international acts on their stops in Newcastle.
Steve then embarked on a solo career and toured overseas for two years, which took in England, Europe,
USA and New Zealand.
After this Steve returned to Australiato form ‘The Fabulous Snott Brothers’ with well known ‘DV8’ rocker Greg Bryce. The duo became very popular, particularly on the surf scene, by hosting specialised theme nights where the audience would become just as involved as the performers.
Steve then decided it was time to base himself in Europe. So he moved to London and immediately started making an impact on the British with his particular style of entertainment. After only a short period Steve became well entrenched in the London music scene and became well known for forming ‘Party’ bands for one off performances. This involved celebrities and members of famous bands joining Steve at London’s
premier venue the ‘Hippodrome’ in the heart of the West End.
Whilst in London Steve saw the opportunity to open his own music venue using the experience he’d gained from his world-wide travels, combined with what he perceived to be the most important factor in any
enterprise, (ie) give the people value for money. So from this idea ‘The Redback Tavern’ was formed, featuring top line entertainment, a great sound system/light show, reasonably priced drinks and a fun atmosphere from both entertainers and bar staff. When Steve sold the pub after four years, it had
become one of London’s leading live music venues catering for over 800 people most nights of the week.
Steve particularly enjoys performing on continental Europe and is invited every year to entertain revellers
at the two biggest European festivals of the ‘Running of the Bulls’ in Pamplona, Spain and the Munich
‘Octoberfest’ in Germany.
Music combined with his other main passion for skiing allows Steve to spend most winters in the Austrian ski fields. Ski instructing during the day and playing music in the evening is ‘the perfect job’ comments Steve.
Now living and performing full time in London and Europe to packed houses, Steve with his busy schedule still
finds the time to return home to Newcastle at the end of every year for two months.
Steve Werren now continues to sell his particular brand of entertainment throughout the world, so if you see him advertised in your area why not come along, sit back with a cold drink and see what he’s all about.
